I have no idea why but I completely forgot about this part of my wedding when I got married last October – I had even saved a template to make little paper holders and was going to ask the florist for extra petals for my guests to throw as we left the chapel (silly bride-brain)!
So if I had it to do all over again, I would totally incorporate this into my day. It makes for beautiful pictures, and what’s more fun for the couple as well as the guests than showering them in prettiness?
Like I mentioned, I love the elegance of cones filled with real rose petals – you can make them out of paper doilies or vintage wallpaper, elect someone to hand them out to guests as they exit the church or have baskets of them near the door.
Bubbles are another popular option and come in all sorts of cute holders, from viles to mini champagne bottles. Sparklers held by guests can also add some whimsical glitz to an evening exit or an outdoor affair.
As you know rice is definitely out (it’s bad for birds), and most venues won’t appreciate their grounds be littered in paper or glitter. A great solution is different types of eco-friendly confetti, which is fun, pretty and safe for the environment. I especially like the lavender rice I discovered as well as the variety of coloured paper flower confetti, which are both completely biodegradable.
It’s a simple touch but one that adds a lot of character to your day, so don’t forget to add it to your to-do list (like I did!)
