thank you for all the love

by Elyna Kudish on May 10, 2010

Hello!

I am not sure if this is the appropriate way of going about this, but there is something I’ve been itching to say, and I can’t really think of a better way of doing it besides on this blog.

Most of you might not know this, but I started Unity Weddings fresh out of university. Let’s face it, my odds at success were not very high. I had zero-to-none experience with planning weddings, let alone actually attending them. Yet something in me desperately drew me to it.

Besides the obvious (um, that being the fact that I love all things wedding), I come from a family of entrepreneurs and have a strong dislike for authority. I like to do things my way, and I definitely don’t like taking orders from anyone.

Starting a business at such a young age was scary. Scary, as in I’m-about-to-jump-out-a-plane-without-a-parachute kind of scary. A lot of people tried to discourage me. My close friends nodded. My so-so friends turned the other way. But when I signed my first client, I felt as though I had won the lottery. After completing my first season, I felt as though the world was mine to conquer.

It’s been four years. Four long years, full of hard work, sleepless nights, stress, exhilaration, and a full array of other emotions. I still feel as though the world is mine to conquer, and I still absolutely love, love, love what I do. And I think this deserves a little thank-you speech.

I would like to thank all of you (friends, family, industry people, past and present clients) who actually take the time to read my ramblings and comment on them. I don’t take the time to answer all of them individually, but you have no idea how warm I feel inside every time a new comment pops up on my blog.

I would like to thank all of you who have and continue to encourage me in what I do. I would like to thank every couple that trusts me with the most important day of their life, and every newlywed who takes the time and effort to write me a thank-you note.

And although I feel more than blessed for all the people who encourage me, I would also like to thank all of you who don’t. You have pushed me to try harder, to do better, to work differently. I love being kept on my toes, and challenges feel like exciting adventures to me.

I have quite a few of those coming up this summer, and I promise to keep you all posted as they come along. In the meantime, here’s a little somethin’ somethin’ that’s on my mind today. And here’s to jobs that feel like new adventures, and to conquering the world (well, one wedding at a time…).

xoxo
